The Police Command in Lagos State says it apprehended 10 suspects over offences bordering on alleged armed robbery, cultism, car vandalism, among others across the state in the month of May.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this on Tuesday, at a media conference held at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.

Tijani said that the command remained committed to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and swift response to criminal activities across the state.

According to him, the operations led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, stolen vehicles, and substantial sums of money linked to criminal enterprises.

He added that the command’s success reflected its determination to rid the state of criminal elements as well as to strengthen public confidence in the police.

Tijani said that in one of the operations, police operatives, acting on intelligence, stormed the residence of a 31-year-old suspected cult leader at the Igando area of Lagos.

“The suspect, a principal leader of the Aiye confraternity, was arrested and a locally made double-barrel pistol was recovered from his residence.

“He has made useful statements to assist ongoing investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang, ” he said.

The commissioner said that police operatives also  responded to a distress call in Bariga, following reports by residents of an attempt to steal a parked Toyota Sienna vehicle.

“Two suspects were arrested at the scene and a subsequent search led to the recovery of a Honda i-VTEC saloon car with registration number ABC 775 LD, ” he said.

The police boss said that on May 18, operatives on routine patrol along Fakoya Street in the Shasha area of Lagos, intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration number FST 542 GY.

“A search of the vehicle and its driver led to the recovery of a Taiwanese-made revolver pistol loaded with four live rounds, alongside a knife.

“The vehicle was also recovered as exhibit, while investigation continues, ” he said.

Moreso, he said that operatives on patrol around  Ikola and surrounding areas pursued three hoodlums on a motorcycle.

“The suspects abandoned their TVS motorcycle with registration number EKY 732 QP, and escaped.

“When they recovered and searched the motorcycle they found a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed in it.

“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, ” he said.

The commissioner assured residents that there would be no hiding place for criminal elements in the state, adding that all arrested suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
