The Lagos State Government on Saturday, August 29, 2026, commenced the controlled demolition of illegal shanties and informal structures erected beneath high-tension electricity lines in the Ikola community, located in the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
​The enforcement exercise follows a violent communal clash on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The unrest, which broke out around 1:52 p.m. near the Power Line Bus Stop, left four adult males dead, several injured, and multiple makeshift structures razed by fire.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) were deployed to restore order.
​The demolition operation is being coordinated by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in partnership with the Lagos State Police Command and the RRS. Heavy recovery machinery was deployed directly to the statutory right-of-way corridor to clear the unauthorized settlements.
​In a statement issued on Saturday, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, clarified that the exercise aims to eliminate severe public safety hazards, such as electrocution, fire outbreaks, and structural collapse, exposed by the recent conflict.
​”This intervention is not targeted at any ethnic group or community, but at a dangerous structural reality that threatens everyone living in its path,” stated Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu. “Communities were granted ample time to safely evacuate and recover personal belongings before the commencement of any demolition activity.”
​Confirming security measures, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, noted that tactical squads and RRS units remain stationed across the Agbado Oke-Odo axis to prevent reprisal attacks and enforce law and order while investigations into the deadly altercation continue.
​The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to engaging local traditional rulers and community leaders to ensure long-term peaceful coexistence and strict compliance with urban planning regulations.
