The Kwara State Government has prohibited all public and private schools in the state from organising graduation, valedictory or similar end-of-session ceremonies, citing security concerns.
The directive was contained in a letter signed by Mrs Bunmi Osanupin, a director in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Lawal Olohungbebe.
The letter, addressed to the Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, Raheem Adaramaja, was made available to journalists on Friday in Ilorin. According to the government, the decision was taken in view of prevailing security challenges and the need to maintain order, safety and decorum in schools across the state.
The government directed all school proprietors, principals, head teachers and administrators to ensure strict compliance with the directive, warning that any school found violating the order would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations. It urged all affected stakeholders to adhere to the directive accordingly.
