Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) salary agreement for academic staff of Kaduna State University (KASU), set to take effect in October 2026.
​The decision was announced on Friday, September 11, 2026, during a press conference held at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Kaduna.
​Addressing journalists, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, disclosed that the approval follows the report and recommendations of a nine-member Government-KASU/ASUU Negotiation Committee set up by the governor and headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Mu’azu Meyere.
​According to Prof. Sambo, the approved package covers key financial components including: The revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), The Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA).
Applicable salary adjustments, allowances, and a one-off payment of ₦300 million as Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) to address inherited backlogs dating back to 2016.
​The approval comes following an indefinite strike action declared by the KASU chapter of ASUU earlier in the week. Prof. Sambo called on ASUU and other university-based unions, including SSANU, NASU, and NAAT, to end industrial actions and embrace dialogue, noting that the Sani administration allocates at least 25 per cent of the state’s annual budget to education.
​Also speaking at the conference, the Vice-Chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, praised the state government for its financial interventions.
He revealed that the administration has released over ₦800 million in previously withheld salaries, ₦146 million for Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) allowances, and over ₦200 million in operational overhead funding in 2026 alone.
​Adding context on institutional reforms, the Director-General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), Dr. Usman Abubakar Umar, emphasised that the administration’s policy decisions, which include a 50 per cent reduction in tertiary education tuition fees, aim to widen access to quality education across Kaduna State.
