Kano, Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has constituted a committee to investigate allegations of misconduct against one of its lecturers, Dr Nasa’i Muhammad-Gwadabe, following the circulation of a video on social media.
The university disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Head of Public Relations, Abubakar Ibrahim.
According to the statement, the allegations stem from a viral video in which the lecturer is alleged to have attempted to sexually harass a female student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
The university said it viewed the allegations with utmost seriousness and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, abuse and other forms of misconduct involving staff or students, regardless of where the alleged incident occurred.
It said the committee had been mandated to investigate the allegations, establish the facts surrounding the incident and submit its findings to the university management.
“The management wishes to emphasise that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the university’s rules and regulations if the allegations are substantiated after the investigation,” the statement said.
NWUK reiterated its commitment to professionalism, integrity and ethical conduct, assuring that the matter would be handled fairly and transparently. It also urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigative process to run its course.
Meanwhile, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) clarified that Muhammad-Gwadabe is no longer affiliated with the institution.
In a separate statement signed by its Registrar, Habibu Awaisu-Abubakar, MAAUN said the lecturer’s one-year appointment as a visiting lecturer expired in May 2026 and was not renewed.
The university stressed that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe learning environment for students and staff.
