The Kaduna State ACReSAL Project has trained 80 farmers on agroforestry and land restoration to reclaim degraded areas across the state.
Hadiza Halid, the State Project Coordinator, revealed this during a one-day community engagement and training session on land restoration held on Wednesday in Kaduna.
She was represented by Kassim Idris, the Monitoring and Evaluation/Agriculture Officer, who said the training supports sustainable land use and environmental resilience.
“We aim to build farmers’ capacity and engage communities to advance land restoration,” she said.
Halid said 1,000 hectares had been mapped in Kudan and Giwa LGAs, with a 2025 target to restore 5,000 hectares.
Abubakar Buba, Commissioner for Environment, praised ACReSAL’s efforts and urged communities to take full ownership of the project.
“This is a shared responsibility. Government alone cannot restore the environment. Community involvement is essential,” he said.
Dr Umar Danladi, the ACReSAL Focal NGO in the state, stressed the need to include communities in all environmental efforts.
“When communities participate from the start, projects are more effective and long-lasting,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project team also carried out field assessments in Sabon Gari, Lere, Kudan and Giwa LGAs.
