The tragic petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa State has now claimed 167 lives, Governor Umar Namadi announced on Thursday evening. The disclosure was made during a condolence visit by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the Government House in Dutse.
In a show of solidarity, Governor Yusuf donated N100 million on behalf of the people of Kano State to support the victims and their families.
Governor Namadi expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, assuring  that the donation would be carefully managed to ensure it reaches those most affected by the disaster.
“The people of Jigawa are deeply appreciative of Kano State’s support during this difficult time,” he said. “The funds will be used judiciously to assist the victims and their families as they navigate the aftermath of this devastating event.”
In addition to the rising death toll, Governor Namadi revealed that no fewer than 67 people are still undergoing medical treatment at various healthcare facilities both within Jigawa State and in neighboring areas.
The explosion has left many families grieving, and the state is focused on providing medical care and support to those injured.
The tanker explosion, which has drawn international attention, has prompted widespread condolences from individuals and organizations globally.
Many have reached out to offer words of comfort to the state government and the grieving families. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has also launched a formal investigation into the incident, hoping to uncover the causes behind the tragic explosion and prevent future occurrences.
Governor Namadi reiterated the state’s commitment to helping the survivors recover and rebuilding the affected communities. “We remain committed to doing everything within our power to help our people heal and rebuild their lives after this catastrophe,” he said.
The Jigawa disaster has cast a dark shadow over the region, with the community struggling to come to terms with the magnitude of the tragedy. However, the outpouring of support from within Nigeria and abroad has given some solace to the affected families as they mourn their loved ones and hope for the recovery of the injured.
