The Jigawa State Senior Secondary Education Board (JSSSEB) is seeking accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for selected secondary school workshops in the state.
It says the workshops will operate as Skills Training Centres under the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework.
This is contained in a statement on Sunday in Dutse from the Executive Chairman of JSSSEB, Prof. Abubakar Sabo, through the board’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Wasilu Ringim.
Prof. Sabo had presented the proposal during a visit to the NBTE headquarters in Kaduna.
He said the proposal formed part of the board’s commitment to transforming existing workshops in senior secondary schools into fully operational Skills Training Centres capable of delivering industry-relevant vocational education.
“The proposal is designed to align skills training with NBTE-approved National Occupational Standards, while enabling students to graduate with both academic qualifications and nationally recognised trade competency certificates,” Sabo said.
He said the initiative would promote entrepreneurship, improve employability and create jobs by equipping students with practical and marketable skills.
According to him, the programme will also help reduce unemployment and social vices through structured skills acquisition.
Sabo assured the NBTE that the proposed centres would meet minimum requirements for infrastructure and equipment, comply with Occupational Health and Safety Standards, engage qualified instructors and implement Competency-Based Training (CBT) methodologies.
The Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris Muhammad-Bugaje, at the meeting commended the Jigawa Government and JSSSEB for the initiative.
Bugaje described the proposal as a significant step towards strengthening technical and vocational education in the country.
“The board remains committed to supporting programmes that advance Technical and Vocational Education and Training and enhance skills development for sustainable national growth,” he said.
He assured the Jigawa delegation of the board’s full cooperation in facilitating the accreditation process and supporting the state’s technical education reforms.
Bugaje also congratulated Sabo, members of the board and the management of JSSSEB on their appointment as the pioneer leadership of the board.
He urged them to leverage their experiences to reposition senior secondary education and drive reforms that would benefit future generations in Jigawa State.
