The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has officially commenced preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage, announcing an initial deposit of ₦7.5 million for intending pilgrims and warning that the registration exercise will close in 87 days.
The early commencement of the registration process is aimed at ensuring a smooth and well-coordinated pilgrimage, while giving prospective pilgrims sufficient time to complete the necessary documentation and financial commitments ahead of the annual journey to Saudi Arabia.
The development marks the formal opening of the 2027 Hajj exercise in the state, following the conclusion of the 2026 pilgrimage, and reflects renewed efforts by authorities to improve planning and reduce the challenges associated with last-minute registrations.
It also aligns with directives issued by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and Saudi Arabian authorities, both of which have continued to encourage participating countries to conclude preparations much earlier to ensure efficient logistics, accommodation arrangements and travel planning.
The Director General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Ahmed Labbo, disclosed the development on Wednesday during a meeting with the board’s zonal officers drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state at the board’s headquarters in Dutse.
Addressing the officials, Labbo said the board had inaugurated the payment process for the initial deposit to enable intending pilgrims to reserve their slots well ahead of the pilgrimage.
“We have commenced the initial deposit of seven and a half million Naira for the 2027 Hajj exercise,” Labbo stated.
According to him, the early payment arrangement is designed to help prospective pilgrims secure their seats in good time while avoiding the pressure and uncertainty that often accompany late registrations.
He explained that the board had learned valuable lessons from the just-concluded 2026 Hajj operations and was determined to improve service delivery by beginning preparations much earlier than in previous years.
Labbo stressed that the registration period would remain open for only 87 days, urging all interested residents of the state to take advantage of the window and complete their initial payments before the deadline expires.
He warned that failure to register within the stipulated period could affect the chances of intending pilgrims participating in the 2027 pilgrimage, as planning for accommodation, transportation and other logistics would commence immediately after the registration exercise.
The director general noted that the board was working closely with relevant national and international authorities to ensure that all procedures comply with the guidelines established for the forthcoming pilgrimage.
He also charged the board’s zonal officers to intensify public enlightenment across the 27 local government areas by educating intending pilgrims on the registration process, payment procedures and other requirements necessary for a successful application.
According to him, the officers serve as the first point of contact for many prospective pilgrims and therefore have a responsibility to provide accurate information and assist applicants throughout the registration process.
Labbo further appealed to intending pilgrims not to wait until the final days before making the required deposit, noting that early registration would enable the board to compile accurate records and make timely arrangements for visas, accommodation, transportation and other essential services.
He reiterated the board’s commitment to ensuring that pilgrims from Jigawa State enjoy a hitch-free and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage through proper planning and adherence to established timelines.
The board also assured intending pilgrims that additional information regarding the final Hajj fare, orientation programmes, medical screening, documentation and travel schedules would be communicated as preparations progress and as further directives are received from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and the Saudi authorities.
Stakeholders at the meeting expressed optimism that the early commencement of registration would improve the overall coordination of the 2027 Hajj exercise and minimise many of the operational challenges experienced in previous years.
With the countdown to the registration deadline already underway, the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has urged all eligible Muslims intending to perform the 2027 Hajj to complete their initial ₦7.5 million deposit promptly, stressing that early compliance remains the best way to secure participation in one of Islam’s most significant religious obligations.
