The Jigawa State Government has increased its 2026 budget to N948.2 billion following the approval of an amended appropriation law, with about N9.9 billion earmarked for agricultural mechanisation and healthcare projects. The state government said the additional funding would support priority programmes while maintaining fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability.
Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse. He said the increase followed Gov. Umar Namadi’s assent to the amended 2026 Appropriation Law, which provided a supplementary allocation of about N46.4 billion, including approximately N17.11 billion for the state’s 27 Local Government Councils.
Musa said about N7.5 billion had been approved for outstanding payments on agricultural mechanisation equipment and the establishment of an Agricultural Hub under the Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanisation Programme. The approval covers 100 81-horsepower four-wheel-drive tractors, 100 disc harrows, 100 disc ploughs, 100 disc ridders, 100 tractor trailers and 100 trackers. He said the hub would support mechanised farming, input distribution, farmer training, equipment maintenance, produce aggregation, storage and post-harvest activities.
In the health sector, the State Executive Council approved about N550.8 million for the revitalisation and upgrade of Samamiya Primary Health Centre in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
It also approved the procurement of 2,155 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food for distribution to Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition centres across the 27 LGAs, alongside N916.222 million for essential drugs, 15,455 Mama Kits for expectant mothers, furnishing of 48 primary healthcare midwifery quarters and 35 computers to support health data reporting and record-keeping.
The government also approved about N527 million for three student hostel blocks at Government Science Technical Colleges in Birnin Kudu, Karkarna and Ringim to strengthen technical and vocational education infrastructure.
In addition, N982.52 million was approved as compensation for property owners whose structures would be affected by the Kafin Hausa Township Road project, which the government said would improve transportation and stimulate local trade. Governor Namadi commended the state House of Assembly for its scrutiny and swift passage of the supplementary budget.
