Following a series of violent attacks across several local government areas, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has launched a targeted 14-day high-intensity security operation aimed at flushing out armed bandits, kidnappers, and violent criminal gangs operating in Benue State.
​The strategic security initiative was announced on Thursday during an emergency stakeholder security summit held at the Government House in Makurdi, attended by community leaders, traditional rulers, and top military officials.
The 14-day joint crackdown will focus heavily on notorious flashpoint areas including Agatu, Logo, Gwer West, Ukum, Kastina-Ala, and the border corridors between Benue and Taraba states.
The Inspector-General of Police announced the immediate deployment of additional tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Units (CTU), and air surveillance assets to track down criminal hideouts in dense forest areas.
Disu issued a strict mandate requiring all unauthorized individuals carrying military-grade weaponry to be disarmed immediately, stressing that no illegal groups will be allowed to terrorize law-abiding citizens.
​Addressing traditional rulers and civil society groups, IGP Disu urged local communities to actively support law enforcement with real-time intelligence to ensure the operation’s success.
​”We are taking the fight directly to the hideouts of these violent elements. This 14-day operation is designed to restore peace, reclaim farmlands, and reassure the people of Benue that their safety remains a top national priority.” IGP Olatunji Disu declared.
​To ensure swift response times during the two-week operation, the IGP instructed the state command to establish dedicated rapid-response emergency helplines, giving citizens direct access to report suspicious activities and criminal movements across the identified flashpoints.
