Mrs. Christy Uroye, wife of the lawmaker representing Warri South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Uroye, has escaped death by the whiskers following an attack on her vehicle by unknown gunmen who were suspected to have carried out the attack in a kidnap operation.
Sources said Mrs. Uroye, however, escaped from her captors after the getaway vehicle conveying her after his abduction got involved in an accident, explaining that in the melee that followed the accident, the lawmaker’s wife escaped unhurt.
Daily Sun, however, gathered that her police security escorts and the driver of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) from where she was abducted were shot dead by the suspected kidnappers.
It was learnt that the suspected gunmen shot the two police escorts alongside the driver of the vehicle to weaken any resistance around the lawmaker’s wife who was then almost effortlessly whisked into a waiting car.
The incident happened at Jakpa road axis of Uvwie Local Government Area around 6:30pm on Monday (yesterday, September 3).
Sources disclosed that the gunmen who were driving recklessly in a bid to scare away intruders crashed the vehicle along the busy Jakpa road, thus making it possible for Mrs. Uroye to be rescued.
Onlookers were said to have helped her to escape from the scene and then rushed her to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe who confirmed the incident, claimed that the operation was “not successful.”
Edafe, in a terse message to our correspondent, said it could no longer be said to be a kidnap operation since it was not successful.
The police image maker, who said he could not confirm the death of the security personnel, said that their three AK-47 rifles were recovered.
