The Federal Government has conferred national honours on serving personnel and veterans of the Nigerian Army in recognition of gallantry, sacrifice, leadership and dedicated service to the nation.
The honours were presented at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Gala Night held on Tuesday at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Col. Appolonia Anele. According to the statement, the late Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed during counter-insurgency operations in Borno State, was posthumously honoured with a Gallantry Award.
Anele said the senior officer was recognised for displaying exceptional courage and leading troops from the front in the fight against terrorism. She noted that the recognition of Brig.-Gen. Uba underscored the Federal Government’s appreciation of officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.
Anele added that several other serving personnel and veterans of the Nigerian Army also received various national honours for acts of bravery, professionalism and outstanding service across different theatres of operation.
“The awards reflect the nation’s gratitude to members of the Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment, resilience and sacrifices in safeguarding lives, property and the sovereignty of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The AFCRD Gala Night is part of activities marking the annual Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, aimed at honouring fallen heroes and boosting the morale of serving personnel.
The event was attended by top government officials, senior military officers, veterans, families of fallen heroes and other dignitaries, who paid tribute to the courage and patriotism of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
