In a major push to expand worker welfare and close the national housing deficit, the Federal Government officially broke ground on the Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate at Dukpa, located in the Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja. The project sets a firm six-month completion target to deliver 250 affordable residential units directly to federal public servants.
​The formal ceremony began at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, directly on site at Dukpa. The landmark event served a dual purpose, marking both the physical launch of the housing development and a special honour for the retiring Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Darma, affirmed that the housing initiative directly reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing worker dignity. Minister Darma emphasized that providing secure, accessible shelter for civil servants directly elevates productivity across public service institutions.
Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, outlined the site layout, noting that the estate will feature two-bedroom and three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows tailored to civil servants’ income profiles.
Beyond shelter provision, the Dukpa development will serve as an immediate economic stimulant for the host community in Gwagwalada, generating thousands of direct construction and indirect commerce jobs for local engineers, skilled artisans, and trade vendors.
