The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered an investigation into some directors of the FCT Administration over alleged illegal approvals granted for the use of parks and green areas as car dealership lots.

Wike gave the directive following concerns over the unauthorised conversion of designated green areas and public spaces for commercial activities within the FCT.

The minister said the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the approvals and identify officials responsible for granting them. He stressed that parks and green areas were created for public use and environmental purposes and should not be converted for private commercial activities.

Wike directed the relevant authorities to review existing approvals and ensure that land-use regulations and the FCT development plan were strictly enforced. He warned officials against granting approvals that contravene the approved land-use plans of the territory.

The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to restoring Abuja’s master plan and protecting public spaces from unauthorised development. He said appropriate action would be taken against any official found culpable after the investigation.
