The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays in observance of the Easter celebration.
The announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. A statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, confirmed the dates.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Christians both in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion. He encouraged citizens to embrace the virtues demonstrated by Jesus Christ, such as selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love.
“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ,” the minister stated.
The minister also emphasized the importance of national unity and peaceful coexistence, describing Easter as a time that reinforces the values of tolerance and community that bind the nation together.
“Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country,” he added.
Tunji-Ojo concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to policies aimed at achieving national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.
