The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ahmed Sanusi, has called for the prompt issuance of court orders and the accelerated prosecution of criminal cases to enhance policing and justice delivery in the nation’s capital.
​Speaking on Friday, July 10, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the High Court of the FCT, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, in Abuja, CP Sanusi stressed that delays in obtaining judicial authorizations heavily impede active police investigations. He noted that prolonged criminal proceedings directly contribute to overcrowding in police detention facilities by unnecessarily extending the period suspects spend in custody.
​”Effective policing and the administration of justice are inseparable and require sustained collaboration between the Police and the Judiciary,” Sanusi stated.
​The police commissioner urged the judiciary to bolster its institutional support by ensuring the swift release of search warrants, bench warrants, and other critical judicial authorizations necessary for timely law enforcement and successful prosecutions.
​In an official statement released later on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the CP expressed deep appreciation for the existing cordial relationship between the FCT Police Command and the High Court, describing the partnership as a vital pillar in strengthening the federal capital’s criminal justice system.
​Responding to the security chief, Chief Judge Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf welcomed CP Sanusi and expressed full confidence in his leadership, describing his recent appointment to the capital command as highly timely. Justice Yusuf acknowledged the valid concerns raised regarding suspect detention periods and assured the FCT Police Command of the judiciary’s unalloyed support in streamlining legal processes to ensure a swifter delivery of justice.
