In a quiet but significant step toward rebuilding community life in Borno State’s Lake Chad region, the Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Hon. Mustapha Kukawa, sponsored a mass wedding for ten couples from the resilient communities of Baga and Doro on Saturday morning.
The ceremony, which commenced at the Kukawa Local Government Secretariat Hall, brought together local elders, traditional leaders, and joyous family members to celebrate an event designed to ease the financial pressures of marriage for displaced and recovering families.
Hon. Mustapha Kukawa explained that the local government stepped in to provide complete financial backing for the nuptials, covering dowries, traditional attire, essential household starter packs, and cash grants to assist the newlyweds in establishing sustainable livelihoods.
”This intervention is about more than just celebrating marriage, it is about restoring dignity, supporting our youth, and fostering social stability as our displaced communities rebuild,” said Mallam Bukar Abba, spokesperson for the Kukawa Local Government Council.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries and their families, community representative Zanna Umar Baga commended the administration’s thoughtful gesture, noting that many young couples in Baga and Doro had postponed marriage due to economic hardships stemming from years of regional instability.
The event concluded with communal prayers led by local religious leaders, wishing the new families lasting peace and prosperity as life continues to normalise across the council area.
