The Enugu State Government has sealed four private hospitals in Enugu North Local Government Area for failing to comply with regulatory requirements.
The Ministry of Health said in a statement on Thursday that the hospitals were sealed on July 8 during an unscheduled inspection aimed at ensuring compliance with licensing and operational standards in private health facilities across the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, said the exercise, led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr Chinyere Ezeudu, involved the inspection of seven private hospitals to assess their operational status, documentation, licensing and adherence to prescribed healthcare standards.
Ugwu said the enforcement drive was part of the state government’s commitment to ensuring safe, effective and quality healthcare services, adding that only approved and compliant facilities would be allowed to operate.
He urged operators of private health facilities to renew expired licences and register unlicensed establishments, noting that the monitoring exercise would continue across the state to strengthen the healthcare system and protect residents.
