Tech billionaire Elon Musk has contributed approximately $119 million to support Republican Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, with a primary focus on key swing states. By mid-October, Musk had transferred $43.6 million to America PAC, a political organization concentrating efforts on battleground states like Pennsylvania. In the previous quarter, from July to September, Musk donated around $75 million and made appearances at multiple Trump rallies.
America PAC has been conducting a daily cash giveaway, awarding $1 million each day to one registered voter, a move that has sparked controversy. The U.S. Department of Justice recently warned Musk that this initiative could potentially violate electoral laws, as it may be interpreted as incentivizing voter participation with cash prizes, which is illegal under U.S. election regulations.
The campaign, set to continue until Election Day on Nov. 5, requires participants to sign a petition in support of “freedom of speech and the right to bear arms,” limited to registered voters in seven swing states. Musk contends that the cash giveaway is meant to draw attention to the petition, arguing that it remains within legal bounds.
Trump is in a closely contested race against Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris, with polls suggesting a tight battle for the White House.
