The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly detained Bichia Maisongo, a prominent activist and promoter of a distinct Hausa cultural identity separate from the broader Hausa-Fulani categorization. Following his arrest, his family, led by his wife, Hauwa, has issued an urgent demand for his immediate and unconditional release.
​Maisongo, known for his vocal advocacy regarding the historical and cultural autonomy of the Hausa people, was reportedly picked up by security operatives earlier this week. While the DSS has not released an official statement confirming the specific charges against him, sources close to the development suggest his detention is linked to his recent public campaigns and social media commentary surrounding ethnic identity.
​Speaking to reporters on behalf of the family, his wife, Hauwa, expressed profound concern over her husband’s well-being and security. She emphasized that Maisongo is a peaceful advocate whose only “crime” is exercising his constitutional right to freedom of speech and cultural expression.
