A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Mr Richard Benson, has emerged Lagos State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) after the party’s congress.

The Chairman of the DLA Congress Committee in Lagos, Mr Olasunkanmi Kosoko, confirmed Benson’s emergence in a statement on Friday after the exercise.

Kosoko said party members and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) witnessed the congress.

He said members were pleased with Benson’s emergence as chairman of the alliance in Lagos State.

According to him, Benson’s emergence marks a significant step toward strengthening democratic values, political inclusiveness and grassroots participation within the state.

Kosoko described Benson as a politician with “a wealth of political experience, visionary leadership and a strong commitment to good leadership values”.

Speaking after his emergence, Benson thanked members and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him.

“I sincerely thank members and stakeholders of the Democratic Leadership Alliance for the confidence and trust reposed in me.

“This development is not only a call to service, but also a responsibility to strengthen democratic values and deepen grassroots political participation,” he said.

Benson pledged to provide “visionary leadership” that would advance people-oriented policies and good governance across the state.

He also promised to unite progressive-minded members and ensure internal democracy within the alliance.

“We shall work tirelessly to unite all progressive forces within our fold and ensure the alliance remains a formidable platform for political engagement.

“Our administration will promote transparency, fairness and internal democracy to build a stronger political movement capable of addressing the people’s aspirations,” he said.

Benson urged party faithful, youths, women and stakeholders to support efforts aimed at promoting the welfare and progress of residents.

He assured members that the alliance’s leadership in Lagos State would remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.
