Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Lagos State, on Thursday restricted the movement of commercial motorcyclists known as Okada to between 5.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. in the community.
Hunpe said this in a statement signed on Thursday by Mr Augustine Kriko, the Chief Press Secretary of the council .
According to the chairman, the directive became necessary in view of the need to beef up security and heighten vigilance amid growing security concerns across the nation.
Hunpe said the measures were aimed at strengthening security, maintaining public order, and safeguarding lives and property across the local government area.
“The council noted that proactive measures are required to prevent security breaches and ensure the continued safety of residents.
“Consequently, commercial motorcycle operators are only permitted to operate between 5.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. daily.
“The directive also makes it mandatory for all motorcyclists to wear identifiable jackets while carrying out their operations within the council area,” he said.
Hunpe further directed that the activities of bowlers and related recreational operators be restricted to between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m., while all social gatherings, parties, and public events must end not later than 7.00 p.m.
He stated that the measures would form part of the local government’s commitment to supporting ongoing security efforts, curbing criminal activities, and fostering a peaceful environment for socio-economic development.
“Residents, community leaders, event organisers, transport unions, and business operators have been urged to comply fully with the new directives.
“Security agencies and relevant enforcement teams have been mandated to ensure strict adherence,” he said.
The chairman warned that violators would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing laws and regulations.
