The aspiration of renowned music icon, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe (KWAM1), to become the next Awujale of Ijebu-Ode and paramount ruler of Ijebuland has encountered a major setback, as the Jadiara Royal House has publicly denied any genealogical connection to him.

In a statement issued in Ijebu-Ode on December 7, 2025, and signed by Otunba Prince Akinola Odedina, the Olori-Ebi of the Jadiara Royal House, the family firmly distanced itself from KWAM1. The statement noted that the royal family, one of the branches of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, has no archaeological, documented, or oral historical evidence linking the Fuji legend to their lineage.

Copies of the statement were forwarded to the Ogun State Government via the Office of the Governor; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; officials of Ijebu-Ode Local Government; and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administration Council.

The family also advised the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling Family to refrain from engaging KWAM1 on any matter relating to genealogical eligibility for the Awujale throne or any purported ancestral ties to the ruling house.

According to Odedina, the royal family felt compelled to clarify the issue in the interest of the public, given the widespread attention the matter has attracted.

He explained,“The Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House may have rightly given KWAM1 a nomination form to complete, expecting him to authenticate his roots in the Jadiara Royal House. But I can state categorically that Wasiu has no genealogical linkage with the Jadiara Royal House.

We have waited for him to present his nomination form and any supporting documents to prove such a connection. He has yet to appear.”
