In response to the technical incident at Well 14 within Oil Mining Lease (OML) 30, Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HEOSL) has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to transparency, safety, and comprehensive environmental remediation. Rather than deflecting blame, HEOSL immediately acknowledged the reservoir gas buildup that led to the incident and took decisive, aggressive actions to protect both the people and the ecosystem of Uzere Kingdom.

From the first moments of the incident, HEOSL prioritized the safety of the community by deploying top-tier resources. Far from letting the eruption simply “subside,” the company engaged globally recognized, foreign well-control experts to safely manage and stabilize the facility. To actively mitigate the environmental impact and prevent the spread of fluids, HEOSL mobilized a massive logistics operation, deploying up to 35 tankers per day to evacuate escaping crude and associated fluids. This massive logistical feat successfully contained the primary footprint of the spill.

Furthermore, HEOSL has operated with complete transparency, working hand-in-hand with regulators and community representatives through Joint Investigation Visits (JIV) to assess the situation objectively. In response to subsequent reports of gas bubbling, the company’s technical teams immediately launched rigorous monitoring of methane and other hydrocarbon emissions. This ongoing air quality assessment ensures strict compliance with national environmental standards, safeguarding the health of the local population.

Recognizing the immediate needs of its host community, HEOSL quickly stepped in with over ₦10 million in relief materials and foodstuffs to support ordinary families. This immediate relief serves as a baseline of support while the company coordinates closely with Delta State authorities, including the medical teams deployed under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to monitor and address public health concerns.

HEOSL views the Uzere community not just as a host, but as a valued partner. The company has already intensified its long-term remediation strategy, pledging to fully restore affected farmlands, decontaminate impacted water bodies, and conduct thorough asset integrity audits. Heritage Energy remains fully dedicated to resolving this incident responsibly, ensuring that Uzere’s historic legacy is preserved through sustainable, world-class environmental stewardship.
