National chairman of the Action People’s Party  (APP), Uchenna Nnadi, has condemned the attack at the party’s  secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Nnadi spoke to newsmen today (Monday, August 12), after inspecting the level of damage at the party’s secretariat in company of the state chairman of the party and the state Commissioner of Police.
He described the development as an act against democracy and called on President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies to ensure that those behind the act are fished out and punished.
He said: “It’s really a sad day for democracy. We condemn in its strongest term the act of bombing our Rivers State chapter secretariat.”
“It is a heinous act; it is an act of terrorism. It is a treasonable act. We thank God Almighty, Who spared the lives of our members. Immediately after they left after a strategic meeting in the night, this heinous act was carried out. God spared the lives of our members, so that we do not lose anyone yesterday to these criminal elements,” the APP National Chairman stressed.
“We are all aware of what is happening in Rivers State. It is all about seizing the treasure of Rivers State. We know this is not the first time this act of terrorism is happening. We have had incidents of bombing before.
“We are calling on Mr. President, the heads of security agencies to go after these criminal elements, whose interest is to instil fear, instil violence in Rivers State .
Nnadi also claimed that those behind the attack were afraid of what the APP could do in the forthcoming local government election.
“We as a party are not deterred. We are sure that we are getting the signal of Rivers people joining our party in preparation for the forthcoming election. And they want to undermine this good policy of the amiable Governor of Rivers State, who wants to conduct local government elections. The perpetrators of the act want to undermine the good policies of the Governor by all means,” Nnadi lamented.
On his part, Chairman of the APP in Rivers, Sunny Nwokekoro, said the party is not deterred by the threats, adding that the party in the State has received many People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members and is ready for the forthcoming local government election.
Meanwhile,  the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State,  CP Olatunji  Disu, has  confirmed the attack on APP  Secretariat  in Port Harcourt, saying that his men had been deployed to secure the area.
