Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he briefed the President on recent developments and the overall state of affairs in Akwa Ibom.
According to reports by PUNCH Online, the meeting provided an opportunity for the governor to discuss progress in key sectors, ongoing projects, and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people of Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Eno, who officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 6, 2025, at the Government House in Uyo, explained that his decision followed “three months of wide consultation” with critical stakeholders across the state.
Reflecting on his tenure with the PDP, Eno expressed appreciation for the support he received from the party, stating that the move to APC was a strategic and progressive step for the state. “I am grateful to the PDP for their support over the years. However, it is time for Akwa Ibom to make a move that ensures continuous development and alignment with national priorities,” the governor said.
Eno further cited his admiration for President Tinubu as a motivating factor for joining the APC. He emphasized that closer alignment with the federal government would enable Akwa Ibom State to fully harness opportunities for development and infrastructure growth.
Political analysts suggest that Eno’s defection to the APC reflects a broader trend among southern governors seeking closer ties with the federal government to secure developmental projects and resources for their states.
During the meeting, both leaders reportedly discussed ways to accelerate key infrastructure projects, enhance economic growth, and strengthen collaboration between the state and federal authorities. The visit also underscored the governor’s commitment to consolidating gains and ensuring that Akwa Ibom benefits from strategic partnerships at the national level.
