Akpabio, who made the announcement on Tuesday – today, when the Senate resumed plenary after its extended Christmas and New Year break, announced Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu as the pioneer chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Committee, with Sen. Kenneth Eze as deputy chairman
The Senate had extended its break to accommodate more Ministries, Departments and Agencies’ 2024 budget performance and 2025 budget defence sessions before its relevant committees.
Similarly, Sen. Titus Zam and Sen. Isa Jibrin were named chairman and deputy chairman of the North Central Development Commission Committee, while Senator Babangida Hussaini was appointed chairman of the North West Development Commission, with Senator Muntari Dandutse as deputy chairman.
In the reshuffling of committees, Senator Abdul Ningi was moved from the Population Committee to chair the Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) while Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, formerly chair of the Local Content Committee, now heads the Diaspora and Non-governmental Organisations Committee.
Other changes include the appointment of Senator Garba Maidoki as Chairman of the Sports Development Committee, Senator Joel Thomas replaces Sen. Akpoti Uduagjan as chairman of the Local Content Committee and Senator Victor Umeh as chairman of the National Population and Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Committee.
Also in plenary, the Senate honoured the late Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Oriyomi Adewumi Onanuga, who died last week.
This was sequel to a motion moved by the Leader of the Senate, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele. The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary till tomorrow.
