In a major initiative aimed at expanding local social welfare and institutionalizing long-term community philanthropy, the Abobo Brown Chieftaincy House of Finima, located in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, has officially launched a ₦400 million Humanitarian Trust Fund.

The announcement was made during a press conference and community engagement session held at the Abobo Brown Chieftaincy House Secretariat in Finima, Grand Bonny Kingdom.

The multi-million naira initiative was established to sustain and expand the philanthropic vision of Aseme-Alabo Abinye Owen Brown, Chief and Head of the Abobo Brown Chieftaincy House.

By setting up a permanent financial framework, the house aims to address social inequality, relieve economic hardship, and remove educational barriers across Finima and its neighboring communities.

Speaking at the unveiling, Elder Senibo Allwell-Brown, Chairman of the Trust Steering Committee, emphasized that true leadership lies in dedicated service to humanity.

He noted that the ₦400 million endowment will ensure that intervention programs targeting widows, underprivileged families, and students remain permanently funded and protected from short-term economic fluctuations.

Under the new trust, resources will be directed toward two primary focus areas. The Widows and Vulnerable Households Support Scheme will provide direct financial grants, enterprise development kits, and healthcare subsidies to help economic heads of families achieve financial stability.

Concurrently, the Indigent Students Educational Trust will offer need- and merit-based tertiary scholarships, cover secondary school tuition, and fund technical skills acquisition programs.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Chieftaincy House, Wari-Alabo Iriagha Christopher Brown, spokesperson for the council, stressed the importance of transparency and structured management in executing the trust’s mission.

He revealed that an independent board of trustees, comprising independent auditors and community representatives, will oversee the allocation of resources to ensure every naira directly serves those most in need.

Local community leaders and beneficiaries attending the ceremony expressed optimism about the project, praising the Abobo Brown Chieftaincy House for setting a benchmark in community-driven social protection.

The trust will formally begin accepting applications for its initial cycle of student scholarships and widow empowerment grants in November.
