The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects in connection with the attack on the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and members of his entourage at Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti.
The arrests follow an assault on Saturday, October 31, 2026, during which Sowore and several supporters sustained injuries requiring medical treatment.
Official statements confirmed that tactical operatives launched a targeted operation shortly after the assault, leading to the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of several incriminating items, communication equipment, and personal belongings of the victims.
Among the items seized during the operation were two walkie-talkies, 13 mobile phones, an MTN 5G Wi-Fi device, a flash drive, eight international passports, seven ATM cards, identity cards, vehicle keys, and a small sum of cash.
Law enforcement officers also recovered illicit substances, including quantities of suspected Indian hemp and Colorado, along with two hemp crushers, rolling papers, and two suspected criminal charms.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that the 11 individuals remain in custody while investigations continue to establish their individual roles, determine possible political connections, and identify all conspirators involved.
Command officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, assuring the public that all culpable parties will face prosecution regardless of political affiliation.
Reacting to the development on Saturday afternoon, Sowore welcomed the arrests but demanded a broader investigation into the orchestrators.
In a statement shared on his official X account, the AAC candidate argued that arresting foot soldiers is insufficient if those who planned, financed, and coordinated the assault remain free, urging the police and security agencies to review CCTV footage from the venue to hold all masterminds accountable.
