The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, have congratulated Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their remarkable victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
In separate statements on Monday, the lawmakers praised the team for their resilience, teamwork, and determination, which saw them clinch the continental title once again, reinforcing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
Abbas hailed the triumph as a testament to the country’s sporting talent and a source of inspiration to millions of Nigerians, especially the youth. He urged sports administrators to build on the achievement by investing more in grassroots development and providing the necessary support for the athletes.

D’Tigress defeated Senegal in the final to lift the Afrobasket trophy, marking their sixth continental title and extending their dominance in the competition.
