In what has been widely interpreted as an insouciant throwing of their colleague under the bus for political expediency, Governors of the 36 States of the Federation under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has declared resolve not to ‘interfere’ in President Bola Tinubu’s controversial declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State and the subsequent suspension of their colleague, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.

Claiming it is “committed to neutrality”, the Forum, in a statement by its Director General, Abdulateef Shittu, explained that taking positions on contentious partisan issues would reflect “a poor understanding of history, given the Forum’s past divisions.”

Accordingly, the NGF called for “public understanding”, expressing confidence that appropriate crisis management mechanisms will address partisan issues.
