President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s quarter-century in elected governance as a “rare achievement in any democracy,” noting that the landmark milestone demonstrates the deep and enduring confidence the people of India hold in his leadership.

The commendation was issued in an official presidential statement released on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM WAT from the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The tribute was formally released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and shared across President Tinubu’s verified public communication channels.

In his message, President Tinubu highlighted Narendra Modi’s political journey, which began on October 7, 2001, when he first assumed office as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a position he held for over 12 years before being elected Prime Minister of India in 2014.

”A quarter-century of unbroken leadership is a rare achievement in any democracy. Across these 25 years, Prime Minister Modi has led with vision and an unwavering commitment to development. From the transformation of Gujarat to India’s emergence as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies, his journey serves as a strong point of reference for emerging nations across the Global South.” President Tinubu remarked.

President Tinubu praised the Indian Prime Minister’s advancements in critical sectors, pointing to significant progress in infrastructure development, digital public goods, financial inclusion, and technological innovation.

The Nigerian leader also underscored the deepening bilateral ties between Nigeria and India. He recalled Prime Minister Modi’s historic State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on the Indian PM the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

President Tinubu expressed strong optimism that trade, security, energy, and economic cooperation between both democratic nations would continue to flourish.

Closing the official message, President Tinubu wished Prime Minister Modi continued good health, strength, and success as he marks 25 consecutive years of public service.
