Ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that its candidate, Peter Obi, is stepping into the race to end what it called the systematic erosion of Nigeria’s commonwealth and restore economic stability.
Addressing newsmen during a strategic media briefing at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the party’s national secretariat in Maitama, Abuja, NDC National Publicity Secretary Comrade Yunusa Tanko outlined the party’s vision to rebuild productive capacity and protect public resources.
Tanko stressed that Obi’s presidency will mark a decisive departure from fiscal recklessness, committing to plugging revenue leakages, enforcing strict spending discipline, and redirecting national assets toward social infrastructure. He asserted that under an NDC administration, every public naira will be accounted for to overhaul healthcare, education, security, and basic infrastructure.
Turning to campaign readiness, the party spokesman noted that following the official election roadmap, the NDC has structured its National Campaign Council to drive grassroots mobilisation across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The campaign strategy prioritizes structural power sector reforms to revive domestic manufacturing, along with agricultural transformation and targeted support for small and medium-scale enterprises. Tanko added that Obi and his running mate remain fully aligned on a policy-driven campaign designed to tackle youth unemployment and poverty head-on.
Concluding the conference, the party spokesman called on the electorate to reject the traditional political establishment, urging Nigerians to register their voice at the polls on Saturday, January 16, 2027, to achieve systemic reform and economic recovery.
