In a major political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has pledged to mobilise at least 50 percent of the votes in Anambra State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the declaration on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the official flag-off of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2027 election campaign held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Addressing a crowd of party faithful, candidate flag-bearers, and supporters, Governor Soludo announced that APGA would not field a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, opting instead to adopt President Tinubu for his re-election bid.

“Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate. We don’t have a presidential candidate,” Soludo declared.

“We gave him only about 5,000 votes [in the previous election], and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state. We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State. We are targeting 50 per cent for the President.”

Also speaking at the event, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa, expressed optimism in the party’s strategic positioning and grassroots reach.

He urged all candidates to take APGA’s manifesto to every ward and voting district across the country, reiterating that Anambra remains an APGA stronghold while aligning strategic federal support for regional development.

The campaign flag-off event featured the symbolic presentation of party flags to 44 APGA standard-bearers across various legislative constituencies in the state, including three senatorial candidates, 11 candidates for the House of Representatives, and 30 candidates contesting seats in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
