Efosa Omo-Osagie, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the upcoming January 16, 2027, House of Representatives election, has vowed to introduce a bill prohibiting the deployment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to states and communities threatened by terrorism and banditry.
Omo-Osagie, popularly known as “Mighty Man,” announced the proposal during a press conference and town hall briefing held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the NDC Secretariat in Benin City, Edo State. Addressing journalists, community leaders, and youth organizations, Omo-Osagie stated that safeguarding young graduates posted across the country for national service must remain a top national priority.
”Our young men and women cannot continue to be deployed as target practice in conflict-prone areas,” Omo-Osagie said during the address. “While national integration is vital, the primary obligation of government is the welfare and security of its citizens. If elected on January 16, 2027, one of my earliest legislative actions in the House of Representatives will be a bill mandating the NYSC to halt postings to high-risk zones affected by active terrorism and violent banditry until security is fully restored.
” The announcement comes on the heels of Omo-Osagie’s recent victory at the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City. Presiding Judge, Justice Chuka Obizor, ruled in suit FHC/B/C/60/2026 to affirm Omo-Osagie as the authentic NDC flagbearer for Oredo Federal Constituency, setting aside the earlier claims of rival aspirant Uyi Frank Omosigho.
Also speaking at the briefing, Engr. David Olukoga, the Edo State Chairman of the NDC, commended Omo-Osagie’s policy vision and reiterated the party’s readiness for the upcoming election. ”This bill proposal reflects the responsive governance the NDC stands for,” Olukoga remarked.
“Our candidate has demonstrated a clear legislative agenda centered on youth empowerment, security, and accountable representation for the people of Oredo.” Omo-Osagie urged supporters to stay focused as campaign activities intensify ahead of the January 2027 polls.
