The Nigeria Police Force has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and ad-hoc personnel engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of complete protection during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The commitment was made on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during a joint media briefing organized by the Forum of Security and Intelligence Agencies under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of the police, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Aniete Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, directly addressed public anxieties over recent safety concerns and targeted threats directed at election workers across the country.
CSP Iniedu stated that extensive security evaluations have already been conducted nationwide to identify vulnerable regions and shore up protection for corps members, election personnel, and sensitive materials prior to, during, and after the polls.
He emphasized that this comprehensive security framework will be jointly executed alongside sister security agencies and intelligence units coordinated directly by the ONSA. Turning to political conduct ahead of the polls, the police spokesperson disclosed that 11 cases of hate speech and political incitement have already been documented by law enforcement.
In response, the Inspector-General of Police has issued strict directives to all State Commissioners of Police to immediately arrest and prosecute any individuals inciting political violence.
To ensure accountability within the force, CSP Iniedu added that dedicated public complaint channels have been established, allowing citizens to directly report any State Commissioner of Police who fails to take decisive action against election-related threats or electoral offenders.
The police administration concluded by reassuring corps members and election ad-hoc staff that all necessary operational measures are being fortified to guarantee their safety as indispensable facilitators of the country’s democratic process.
