Indigenes and residents across Ogun State renewed their commitment to protecting the state’s political heritage on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, declaring full support for the ‘Ogun for Ogun’ movement ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The pledge was delivered during ward-to-ward consultation tours conducted across various local government areas, including Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area and Sagamu LGA.

The grassroots outreach was led by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, alongside his running mate, Dr. Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, to foster community engagement and homegrown governance.

During the engagements, community leaders, women groups, and youth advocates pledged to conduct house-to-house campaigns to secure support for candidate leadership with deep historical and ancestral ties to the state.

Speaking to residents during the ward tour in Obafemi/Owode, PDP Deputy Governorship candidate Dr. Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo emphasized that their administration would prioritize primary healthcare, education, and economic empowerment for women and youth.

She noted that the ‘Ogun for Ogun’ mandate centers on building a state where every community, regardless of location or social standing, feels a sense of belonging and directly benefits from good governance.

Addressing stakeholders across the wards, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu outlined his “ITURA DE” agenda, describing it as a social contract designed to restore local government autonomy, repair road infrastructure, empower farmers, and generate employment for the youth.

He explained that the ongoing ward engagements serve not only to solicit votes but also to directly listen to residents and address community-specific concerns.

Local community representatives also voiced their stance during the tour stops. Highlighting pressing local challenges such as dilapidated market roads and youth unemployment, community spokesperson Alhaja Toyin Fasanya urged residents to support homegrown political leadership.

She emphasized that Ogun indigenes must elect leaders who grew up within the communities, understand their language, and share their everyday struggles to protect the state’s political heritage.

Similarly, youth leader Comrade Bayo Oduwole added during the Ward 10 engagement in Sagamu that young people are actively mobilizing voter education and door-to-door campaigns to ensure that competence and ancestral belonging remain at the forefront of the upcoming election cycle.

The PDP campaign team noted that ward-level tours and consultation meetings will continue across all three senatorial districts in Ogun State to consolidate political support ahead of the 2027 polls.
