Tragedy struck in Osun State on Friday night when a two-storey shopping complex under construction collapsed in Owode-Ede, Ede North Local Government Area, leaving three workers dead and four others severely injured.

The incident occurred late on Friday, October 30, 2026, as workers engaged on the site were reportedly staying overnight within the structure to resume construction work early the next morning. Rescue operations were promptly initiated following emergency alerts from local residents who heard a deafening crash as the multi-storey commercial building came down.

First responders, including state emergency management officials and local volunteers, pulled seven people from the rubble. Three individuals were confirmed dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries, while four survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, stated that emergency crews responded quickly to extract victims trapped under the debris.

”The collapse occurred late Friday night at a two-storey commercial structure under construction in the Owode-Ede area. Tragically, three lives were lost, while four injured individuals were rescued and immediately transported to the hospital,” Adeleke said.
