The prosecution in the trial of popular content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu Asaba,” presented five witnesses and crucial video evidence before the Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Ogbonna is standing trial over charges of rape and manslaughter in connection with the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro, who died in June 2026 after traveling from Ughelli to Asaba on an offer of content creation training.
The defendant had previously pleaded not guilty to all charges during his initial arraignment on October 21, 2026, before presiding judge, Justice Michael Nduka Obi. During Wednesday’s court proceedings, the prosecution team, led by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, alongside Director of Public Prosecutions Tejiri Anuhwin, opened its case by calling five key witnesses to the stand.
The witness line-up included the deceased’s twin sister, her brother, her father, the medical doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination, and the investigating police officer handling the case. Alongside the testimony of these individuals, the state formally tendered video footage, medical records, and police investigative findings into evidence.
Other counsel appearing for the prosecution included Ugochukwu Okolotu, Funkekeme Solomon Junior, Faith Beluchukwu, and Awele Ideal, who represented the nominal complainant. Following the presentation of witnesses and video evidence, the defense counsel requested an adjournment to enable them to thoroughly study the witness statements and additional evidence served by the state.
Addressing journalists outside the courtroom after the proceedings, Solicitor-General Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, stated that while the prosecution was fully prepared to proceed, it acknowledged the defense’s constitutional right to adequate time to review all materials and prepare its response. Erebe reaffirmed the state’s commitment to delivering justice based strictly on the facts and evidence presented before the court.
Justice Michael Nduka Obi adjourned the case to November 19, 2026, for the continuation of the trial. Ogbonna remains remanded in custody at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre.
