The family of late Nigerian music star Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has formally requested the immediate disclosure of the identity and accreditation details of the United States laboratory tasked with conducting the DNA test to establish the paternity of his son, Liam.
In an official statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the head of the Aloba family, Samuel Aloba, called for a temporary hold on the scheduled sample collection exercise, which was set to take place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Mainland General Hospital and Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) facility in Yaba, Lagos.
Central to the family’s demands is complete transparency regarding the offshore testing facility. While emphasizing their unwavering support for a thorough and conclusive DNA analysis, the family insisted that the identity, credentials, and full chain-of-custody protocols of the chosen US facility must be provided to all parties prior to any sample extraction.
They expressed deep concerns over the potential risks of sample mishandling, interference, or manipulation in the absence of clearly defined and mutually agreed-upon safeguards. To ensure the process maintains its legal integrity, the Aloba family urged all involved stakeholders to seek further directives from the Lagos State Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, highlighting that judicial oversight remains vital to delivering an unassailable scientific result.
Samuel Aloba noted that the objective is not to predetermine the outcome or delay the exercise indefinitely, but rather to guarantee that the final result rests on a transparent and verifiable process. The legal and scientific dispute follows the tragic passing of Mohbad on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances.
His death prompted widespread public outcry and a subsequent investigation by the Lagos State Police Command. In the aftermath, the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed applications before the coroner’s court to determine the cause of death and establish the paternity of young Liam. The family maintains that until full details regarding the US laboratory are made public, the planned sample collection in Yaba should remain on hold.
