Niger State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is targeting more than two million votes to secure a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s candidates in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Monday, October 26, 2026, during the inauguration of the newly constituted 525-member Niger State APC Campaign Council at the Government House Auditorium in Minna, Governor Bago emphasized that the party intends to far surpass its previous electoral performances.
Addressing party executives, state ministers, lawmakers, and political appointees, the governor outlined a strategy to leverage the state’s political structure, spanning local government areas, wards, and polling units, to mobilize grassroots voters across Niger State.
Governor Bago noted that with over 100,000 individuals embedded in the state’s party apparatus and administrative apparatus, translating individual political influence into active voter participation could deliver unprecedented totals at the polls.
He pointed to recent progress in infrastructure development and security improvements across the state as tangible evidence of the administration’s performance, adding that the APC’s North-Central Presidential Campaign Office in Minna would be officially commissioned in the coming days.
Beyond electoral targets, the governor issued a strong call for internal cohesion and reconciliation within party ranks. He urged party leaders to promote unity, put aside internal divisions, and actively welcome back former members who had previously defected to opposition parties.
Echoing the governor’s ambitious declaration, key party chieftains reiterated the council’s commitment to delivering results. Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, serving as the Director-General of the Niger State APC Campaign Council, described the appointment as a solemn call to service and a heavy responsibility toward securing the state’s political trajectory.
Accepting the leadership role on behalf of the 525-member body, Ibeto pledged that the council would operate with strict discipline, strategic coordination, and transparency, prioritizing grassroots engagement and adhering closely to party structures and electoral guidelines.
Adding to the momentum, Hon. Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, the APC Vice Chairman for the North-Central zone, cautioned campaign members against underestimating opposition parties.
He explained that the APC is adopting a refined and intensified strategy across the zone to consolidate voter turnout, emphasizing that both President Tinubu and Governor Bago require a continued mandate to fully implement their long-term socioeconomic reforms and developmental projects across Niger State and the wider region.
