Prominent Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, officially launched the Oyo State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Addressing a massive gathering at the iconic venue, Igboho revealed that over 20,000 volunteers have officially registered with the security initiative, which is designed to combat rising insecurity, farm invasions, and banditry across rural communities and forest reserves in the South-West region.

The activist disclosed that the inauguration followed high-level consultations in Abuja and key traditional engagements, notably highlighting his ongoing collaboration with the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Igboho expressed deep gratitude to Almighty God, traditional rulers across the country, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enabling a platform where grassroots security volunteers could assemble and organize peacefully.

While urging the newly recruited volunteers to maintain high standards of discipline and refrain from abusing their authority, Igboho likened the humble beginnings of the outfit to the early days of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCD).

Encouraging the operatives not to be deterred by skeptics who currently look down on their efforts, he assured them that their dedication to community protection would soon earn them widespread recognition and respect.

During his address, Igboho also threw his support behind President Tinubu, urging members of the security network and the general public to remain law-abiding and cast their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming electoral exercises to preserve regional and national stability.

The Iru Ekun Security Network, translating to “The Leopard’s Tail”, continues to seek formal synergy with established statutory bodies, including state security agencies like Amotekun and the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure lawful operational coverage across the South-West.
