The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding its longstanding diplomatic partnership with the Republic of Korea, placing enhanced economic cooperation, technological innovation, and youth empowerment at the forefront of the bilateral agenda.
The commitment was declared on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during a high-level diplomatic reception held at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Abuja.
The gathering convened senior Nigerian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and key private-sector stakeholders to review shared accomplishments and map out future areas of strategic collaboration.
In his remarks, the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Kim Pankyu, reflected on Korea’s transformation over the past several decades, drawing parallels to Nigeria’s current developmental trajectory and potential.
”In 1953, Korea remained divided, much of the country lay in ruins, and annual income per person was below one hundred dollars,” stated the envoy. “We believed in our people, in education, and in a better future. Thanks to international support and sheer determination, Korea rebuilt itself.
Nigeria has a proud history and rich culture; its greatest strength lies in its talented, energetic young generation. We respect Nigeria’s vision for its future and are proud to work together as equal partners.”
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian government, official representatives underscored the administration’s resolve to scale up trade volume and attract targeted foreign direct investment. Both nations agreed to prioritize investments in critical infrastructure, renewable energy systems, agricultural modernization, and joint security initiatives.
A central focus of the discussions involved leveraging Korea’s advanced technological landscape to support Nigeria’s expanding digital economy and vibrant youth demographic through comprehensive vocational training programs and technical skills exchanges.
Beyond economic and technical cooperation, the reception showcased traditional Korean culinary displays, art exhibitions, and cultural performances, highlighting the growing cultural alignment between the two nations.
The event concluded with both delegations pledging to maintain high-level bilateral dialogues and ensure the expedited implementation of existing framework agreements across various economic sectors.
