Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has mounted a firm defense of his party’s formal application to hold the inauguration of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Sowore asserted that in a functioning multiparty democracy, opposition parties should enjoy the same level of access to public state infrastructure as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The official request was outlined in a formal letter dated October 21, 2026, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. Signed on behalf of the party by AAC National Secretary Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the correspondence titled “Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support” seeks authorisation to host the ceremony inside the seat of power on November 11, 2026.
Beyond requesting the use of Aso Rock Villa as the venue, the AAC petitioned the Federal Government to provide comprehensive catering, refreshments, security clearance, and organizational backing for an estimated 5,000 delegates and supporters expected to travel to the capital from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
The party maintained that such arrangements are routinely made available to the ruling APC during political gatherings, arguing that granting equal privileges would demonstrate political inclusiveness, institutional fairness, and freedom from partisan bias in public resource administration. Responding to public discussions generated by the application, Sowore reiterated that Aso Rock represents national heritage rather than private property of the ruling faction.
He noted that the party remains eager to obtain the necessary guidelines and technical conditions required for approval, though the Presidency has yet to issue an official response to the correspondence.
