The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially declared himself the “commander of field operations” for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign across both the nation’s capital and Rivers State.

Speaking on Monday morning, October 12, 2026, during a high-level political strategic meeting held at the FCTA Hall in Abuja, Wike outlined a bipartisan agenda designed to consolidate electoral support for the incumbent president ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Addressing a broad coalition of stakeholders, comprising leaders from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike called for an immediate suspension of partisan divides to secure a decisive victory for President Tinubu.

”For the presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am going to coordinate the FCT and Rivers State, so you can imagine how important it is,” Wike declared during the session. “I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned.”

Urging unity among political actors across the FCT’s six area councils, Wike added: “I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ For the purpose of this election, we are together.”

The meeting was attended by key political figures across party lines, including national assembly members, local council chairmen, and political representatives from both major parties.

Pledging total alignment with the minister’s leadership, the APC FCT Chairman, Mr. Ishaku Yamawo, endorsed Wike as the territory’s operational leader, referring to him as the “pilot and commandant” of the FCT campaign structure. Echoing these sentiments, PDP FCT Chairman Usman Yahaya reaffirmed his faction’s backing, asserting, “We are in PDP, but we are going to support Tinubu’s re-election 100 per cent.”

Wike cited infrastructure projects completed across the FCT and structural civil service reforms under President Tinubu’s administration as key performance indicators that will anchor the campaign’s message to voters in 2027.
