Mr Kehinde Oyefusi, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ikorodu Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly , says he is confident of victory in 2027 despite the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s strong political presence in the area.
Oyefusi told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)on Tuesday in Lagos that elections were ultimately about the people, their expectations and confidence in candidates, rather than party strength alone.
The candidate said he would beat the APC candidate and those of other parties to win the seat.
“Of course, every election comes with its challenges, and I recognise that the APC currently has a strong political presence in Ikorodu.
“However, I believe that elections are ultimately about the people, their expectations, their experiences, and the confidence they have in the individuals seeking to represent them”.
He attributed his confidence to his roots in Ikorodu, public service experience and commitment to grassroots engagement and development.
Oyefusi, son of the late traditional ruler, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, said he hoped to build on his father’s legacy of peace, unity and development.
He, however, stressed that his family name alone would not guarantee success, saying character, hard work and commitment accountability and service would work for him.
“The name Oyefusi carries a history in Ikorodu, but I understand that a name alone is not enough.
“It must be backed by character, commitment, hard work, and service”.
The ADC candidate also cited his experience in the Lagos State Government as an important part of his record, saying he was prepared to have his performance examined alongside those of other candidates.
He pledged to prioritise effective representation, community development and opportunities for young people, while calling for an assessment of candidates based on their records, accountability and commitment to the constituency.
” My vision is simple: to make representation accessible, accountable, and focused on the real needs of the people of Ikorodu,” Oyefusi said.
Oyefusi said the APC’s political presence was a challenge to be addressed through hard work, meaningful engagement and a clear commitment to the people.
“I do not underestimate the APC or any other opponent, but neither do I believe that any political party should be considered unbeatable”.
