A total of 250 candidates drawn from various political parties have been cleared to contest for the governorship seat and 24 State House of Assembly seats in Ebonyi State in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The official list of contestants was published at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abakaliki on Sunday, October 11, 2026, following the release of the nationwide candidate lists.
Addressing newsmen during a press briefing held at the INEC state headquarters at 3:25 PM WAT, the INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Ebonyi State, Christian Oko, disclosed that the publication was done in strict compliance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the commission’s approved timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.
”The final list of the governorship and State House of Assembly candidates has been officially displayed at our state headquarters,” Oko stated, confirming that the statutory requirements for candidate clearance had been fully met.
Alongside the candidate release, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ebonyi State, Mrs. Onyeka Ugochi, announced the commencement of a week-long Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection drive for citizens who registered during the 2025 voter registration exercise.
Mrs. Ugochi noted that the PVC distribution commenced on October 9, 2026, and will run through October 15, 2026, across all Registration Area (ward) levels between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily, before transferring to the 13 Local Government Area offices on October 16.
She sternly warned electoral officers against collection by proxy, emphasizing that registered voters must physically collect their cards to exercise their franchise.
