The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has firmly reiterated that its foundational mandate to deliver free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive general elections in 2027 remains clear, absolute, and non-negotiable.

The assurance was issued on Friday, during a media briefing and institutional stakeholder session held at the INEC Press Centre, Commission Headquarters, Plot 436 Zambezi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the commission, Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, emphasized that the electoral body is completely focused on safeguarding the democratic process to ensure all official results accurately reflect the sovereign will of the Nigerian electorate.

”Our primary mandate is clear and non-negotiable: to deliver an electoral process in 2027 that is free, fair, credible, transparent, and fully inclusive,” Olumekun stated. “The integrity of the vote is paramount.

We are actively refining our internal infrastructure, voter registration mechanisms, and legal alignment to ensure that every valid vote counts and that the final outcomes truly express the sovereign will of the Nigerian people.”

Also addressing attendees at the venue, Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, addressed public concerns regarding logistical execution and technological transparency.

Oketola highlighted that early planning, technical reviews of party primary regulations, and ongoing engagements with political parties and civil society organizations are already underway to prevent post-election disputes and administrative bottlenecks.

The commission’s reaffirmation comes as part of its ongoing preparations for the 2027 general election cycle, with officials stressing that operational independence and transparency will remain the bedrocks of all upcoming electoral activities.
