In a major move to deepen bilateral relations across the Nordic region, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland, and Norway, Her Excellency Lola Akande, officially presented her Letters of Credence to the Danish monarch, King Frederik X.

The ceremony took place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. The presentation formally marks the commencement of Ambassador Akande’s diplomatic duties and diplomatic engagements with the Kingdom of Denmark.

Following the formal presentation, Ambassador Akande was received in a private royal audience by King Frederik X. During the meeting, she conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the King, the Danish Royal Family, and the government and people of Denmark.

Highlighting Nigeria’s strategic interest in expanding collaboration with Denmark, Akande reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships across key socio-economic sectors.

She commended King Frederik X for his longstanding leadership in global sustainability and climate stewardship, identifying climate action, peace and security, and sustainable development as pivotal pillars for future Nigeria-Denmark relations.

”The presentation of these credentials reflects Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Danish government, the private sector, and key stakeholders to advance strategic economic partnerships, technology transfer, and sustainable development,” Ambassador Akande stated.

Confirming the event, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Official Spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, noted that Ambassador Akande’s broad mandate across the Nordic domain aligns with Nigeria’s economic diplomacy agenda.

Resident at the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, Akande oversees diplomatic missions extending to Denmark, Finland, and Norway. Her accredited presence in Copenhagen is expected to open new channels for bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and multilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Denmark.
